Will Nikki Fried fight Lake Okeechobee discharges, water pollution, toxic algae blooms?

Former Treasure Coast congressman Patrick Murphy, a clean-water advocate, said his appointment as Fried’s transition committee chair proves her dedication to the cause.

Murphy joked his job will be “easy” because Fried is already committed to clean water and well-informed about water policies and projects.

“I don’t need to make a sales pitch because it’s sold,” Murphy told TCPalm this week.

Murphy said he’ll introduce Fried to people on all sides of water-policy arguments, including biologists, environmentalists and agriculture industry workers.

“I don’t think anyone is going to be excluded from those conversations,” Murphy said. “I think she is going to keep a big table and get a lot of different thoughts before any sort of final, major policy decision is made.”
